Gurangatch and Mirragan

The Gundungurra people have a Dreamtime story telling how the mountains and waterways of their land were created. Gurangatch, a large reptile-fish, shaped the landscape of the Burragorang Valley as he fought with Mirragan, the tiger quoll. The story begins when Mirragan, a great hunter, sees Gurangatch resting in his waterhole and tries to poison him with Wattle Bark. As Gurangatch escapes Mirragan, they carve up the landscape of what is now called the Wollondilly and Coxs river all the way to Jenolan. This film commences at the Murraural waterhole where Gurangatch and Mirragan's epic battle begins.

Filmed on location at the Wollondilly River, New South Wales, Australia.
A collaboration between Gundungurra Aboriginal Heritage Association Incorporated and Vera Hong Productions.
