Previously a drover, Herb Wharton started writing for the first time around the age of 50. Herb has received the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature and is a member of the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame. In his poem ‘Kings with Empty Pockets’, Herb tells of the allure, romance and harsh realities of a stockman’s life.

Filmed on location at Bourke, New South Wales; and Cunnamulla, Queensland, Australia.

This film is part of Through Our Eyes series 3, which celebrates Indigenous Australian’s experience of the land, traditional knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledges the struggles and success of Aboriginal outback people through times of radical cultural turmoil.
