Weilmoringle Freak - with Sonny Orcher

On the 12th of August 1958, in the small Australian outback town of Weilmoringle, Dudley Orcher broke the world record for shearing the most sheep in one day.

Yet he couldn’t claim recognition for this, because he was Aboriginal.

Sonny Orcher tells the story of his father and the song he wrote in memory of this Aboriginal world champion shearer, 'WEILMORINGLE FREAK'.

Filmed on location at Weilmoringle, New South Wales, Australia.

This film is part of Through Our Eyes series 3, which celebrates Indigenous Australian’s experience of the land, traditional knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledges the struggles and success of Aboriginal outback people through times of radical cultural turmoil.
